Nigerian singer and songwriter Burna Boy has for the second time won the ‘Best International Act’ award at the 2020 BET Awards.
The Afro-fusion star was nominated in the category alongside Stormzy, Dave, both UK based, Ninho and S.Pri Noir(France), Sho Madjozi(South Africa) and Innoss’B(DRC).
The Award show was held live in Los Angeles but streamed virtually due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Hosted by comedian and actress Amanda Seales with performances from stars like Usher, Lil Wayne, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Megan Thee Stallion, Chloe x Halle, DaBaby, D Smoke, Jennifer Hudson and many others.
Burna Boy accepted the award from the comfort of his home in Nigeria.
In an acceptance speech, the musician said; “Second time and I appreciate it. I will like to use this opportunity to say that sometime around 1835, there was admission to turn the nation of Africa into a dominated nation.”
“Now is the time to return and go back to the royalty that we were, because, in order for black lives to matter, Africa must matter,” Burna Boy said in his acceptance speech.
