His comments come after Ghana’s best rapper Sarkodie picked up the Best International Flow award at the recently held BET hip hop awards and delivered a speech inviting all-black natives in the US to visit Ghana for ‘the year of return’.
“I just want to say thank you to the Almighty God. To my family, this one is for my lil girl Titi…. I think Africa has always had it and it is about that time.
This year is the Year of Return and I will urge each and every one of you here to take a trip back home. When you’re coming to Africa, choose Ghana.” Sarkodie said in his acceptance speech.
The Year of Return is an initiative aimed at marking 400 years since the first black slaves landed in Jamestown Virginia.
This initiative is urging all Africans in the diaspora to come back home, explore, learn and appreciate their roots.
Already Ghana has seen an array of celebrities from the US visiting the country.
Names like Steve Harvey, Boris Johnson, Kofi Kingston, Nicole Ari Parker, Diggy Simmons, Micheal Jai White, Anthony Anderson (of Blackish), Rosario Dawson, Jidenna, Cynthia Bailey, Bozoma Saint John and many others.
