Take precautions against Coronavirus- Ministry of Health

The Ministry of Health has issued a press release cautioning the Ghanaian public on the outbreak of Wuhan Coronavirus in China.

The outbreak was linked to a local animal market but also spreads from one person to the other. The Ministry said alert messages are being sent to all regions in the country on the outbreak in addition to guidance information on the disease.

There will also be enhanced surveillance at points of entry especially the Kotoka International Airport. A statement signed by the Minister of Health, Kweku Agyemang Manu said as part of measures to prevent an outbreak in Ghana, passengers from China will undergo enhanced screening procedures including the administration of health questionnaire.

The statement said health facilities have also been alerted to prepare and manage cases in case of an outbreak. In addition, there is in-country capacity to diagnose the virus through the laboratory testing of the appropriate samples by Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

The World Health Organisation has called on countries to strengthen and control measures for the virus.

The Ministry has cautioned the public to regularly wash their hands with soap and water, and also keep a distance of at least one step from a person showing signs of fever, cough, and difficulty in breathing. It is, therefore, urging all stakeholders to support in efforts to prevent the virus in Ghana.
